Description

Instructional Designer, Contract—hybrid location Livermore, CA. Responsible for designing and developing instructor‑led, web‑based, and on‑the‑job training for apprenticeships in the utilities industry.

Responsibilities

• Primary designer and developer for instructor‑led, web‑based, and on‑the‑job training.
• Leverage instructional design methodologies to assess stakeholder needs, analyze complex content, and evaluate delivered training.
• Develop learning materials including hands‑on practice activities, student guides, facilitator guides, scenarios, videos, assessments, simulations, and other media.
• Perform detailed task analysis for each job function, business process, or system.
• Partner with cross‑functional teams to conceptualize training design and content.
• Define learning objectives and course structure aligned to stakeholder needs.
• Work under the direction of the Senior Instructional Designer to apply company standards, guidelines, and templates.
• Write clear and effective instructional text, audio, or video scripts.
• Lead milestone meetings with subject matter experts.
• Engage with subject matter experts for ongoing content review and validation.
• Receive and incorporate feedback.
• Self‑manage assigned tasks and deadlines.
• Proactively communicate issues and risks.

Required Skills

• 3+ years’ experience developing instructor‑led training and on‑the‑job tasks for technical skills.
• 3+ years of experience with Storyline, Question Mark, and Author‑It.
• Knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design methodologies.
• Proven experience performing task analysis.
• Strong knowledge of PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Teams.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver against multiple competing deadlines.
• Experience developing technical training for adult learners.
• P Academy experience is a plus.

Work Samples / Portfolio

A portfolio or work samples must be provided for consideration.

Desired Skills

• Technical writing experience.
• Utility industry experience.

Location & Hours

• Must be located in the Bay Area near Livermore, CA.
• Work Monday‑Friday, no more than 40 hours per week.
• Hybrid: remote work with monthly/quarterly travel to P locations; overnight stays may be necessary.
• Travel expenses reimbursed.
