The NAU School of Art + Design is a dynamic, creative higher education community situated in a striking natural landscape. The Printmaking Area is housed in the School of Art + Design (SoA+D), within the College of Arts and Letters (CAL) and serves 150 BFA majors. The Printmaking Studio is a large, well‑equipped space that supports lithography, intaglio, silkscreen, relief, book arts, and letterpress. About

the Position

The School of Art + Design at Northern Arizona University seeks a full‑time Assistant Professor of Printmaking at our Mountain Campus in Flagstaff, Arizona.

The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of (1) successful and innovative teaching and/or curriculum development (or demonstrated potential to do so), (2) an active exhibition record, and (3) a willingness to engage in community‑building and a school‑wide initiative to enhance the student experience.

This is a 9‑month, benefit‑eligible, promo table, tenure‑track position beginning August 2026.

Responsibilities Include
  • Teach three courses per semester in all levels of printmaking and/or Foundations.
  • Maintain the Printmaking facility while prioritizing safety, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
  • Provide vision and leadership for the Printmaking Area.
  • Maintain an active creative practice that builds towards promotion and tenure.
  • Guide students with a Printmaking Emphasis in developing well‑crafted and conceptually rigorous work that build towards their capstone project.
  • Serve the SoA+D, College, and/or University through committee work.
  • Contribute to a vibrant and supportive SoA+D community of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Draw on experience to build networks between the SoA+D and creative professionals.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in maintaining and innovating a rigorous curriculum that prepares students to enter the creative sector.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • MFA in Printmaking or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Evidence of full‑time college/university‑level teaching experience in printmaking or related field.
  • Evidence of innovative teaching and/or curriculum development.
  • Evidence of a strong or developing exhibition record.
  • A contemporary approach to art‑making that includes traditional and interdisciplinary methods.
  • Experience using and/or teaching a variety of printmaking practices and materials with a special interest in lithography and/or digital methods.
  • Experience fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge
  • Familiarity with contemporary art practices.
Skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Abilities
  • Ability to teach a wide range of curricular levels.
  • Ability and willingness to teach at the Foundations level (Drawing, 2D Design, Color Theory).
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively across a broad range of learners, including those from a variety of cultural, socioeconomic, and neurodiverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to use and teach a wide range of printmaking techniques with a special interest in lithography and digital methods.
  • Ability and willingness to teach at the fundamentals level (drawing, 2d design, color theory).
