Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00 – 5:00 p.m. (Possible nights and weekends)
Salary Range: $59,300 – $74,200 per year

Position PurposeIn support of Dartmouth’s Alumni Relations mission, the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement implements alumni engagement strategies for 90,000+ alumni worldwide. This role supports volunteer partnerships and leadership in alumni organizations (class, clubs, groups) and collaborates with volunteer leadership boards, internal campus partners, ad‑hoc committees, and task forces to build connections between alumni and Dartmouth. The position ensures alignment of alumni engagement efforts with broader institutional goals and supports the multifaceted goals of alumni engagement.
Responsibilities- Implement long‑term and short‑term strategies for regional alumni engagement, leveraging data and best practices.
- Exercise discretion in decision‑making, contributing insights and recommendations with minimal guidance.
- Collaborate closely with the Alumni Experiences and Operations teams to align shared goals and outcomes.
- Track progress and measure the impact of engagement initiatives, driving continuous improvement and accountability.
- Oversee a portfolio of regions and volunteers, providing guidance and support for long‑term success.
- Collaborate with volunteers to maintain and enhance Dartmouth’s reputation and presence in key markets, support strong applicants, and create sustainable volunteer structures in alumni organizations.
- Implement in‑person and virtual programs (e.g., Dartmouth on Location, expert panels) and networking events.
- Recruit, train, onboard, and manage alumni volunteers (balanced class portfolio, at least one Reunion class per year).
- Work with a variety of alumni volunteer groups (Alumni Council Committees, DEDs, volunteer boards).
- Liaise with campus partners (Athletics, Student Life, Admissions, IDE, Irving, the Hop) for regional and volunteer‑related efforts.
- Communicate with alumni, volunteers, and faculty to execute engagement strategies.
- Oversee final briefing materials, ensuring accuracy, messaging alignment, and timely sign‑off for major alumni events and programs.
- Coordinate with the broader Advancement team to ensure consistent alumni communications, events, reunion planning, and volunteer engagement.
- Develop new engagement opportunities with Advancement and campus partners to meet changing alumni needs.
- Manage engagement strategies for priority alumni segments (young alumni, international alumni).
- Introduce creative, strategic, and tactical thinking to outreach planning to enhance Dartmouth’s reputation and showcase its intellectual strengths.
- Foster strong alumni relationships, engaging them in institutional life and with one another; participate in cultivating a culture of volunteerism at Dartmouth.
- Demonstrate commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through interactions and communications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three years of advancement experience in a complex college or university development operation or equivalent.
- Volunteer and project‑management experience.
- Robust interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) for internal stakeholders and diverse constituents, virtually, locally, and regionally.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to manage complex projects or events.
