Job Summary:
The School of Health and Applied Human Sciences (SHAHS) within the College Health and Human Services at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) seeks an outstanding faculty member at the Assistant Professor rank, 9-month tenure-track position in the Public Health program beginning August 2026. The successful candidate will be one of nine Public Health faculty members that serve approximately 240 undergraduate Public Health majors in four concentrations.
The candidate will be a Public Health generalist who can teach a variety of undergraduate Public Health courses, conduct research, publish, write grants, mentor students, foster community engagement, and provide service to the program, school, college, university, and profession. This is a non-remote position.
- Teach undergraduate Public Health courses, both in‑person and online, across the program’s concentrations.
- Conduct research, publish findings, and seek grant funding.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students and oversee research projects.
- Engage with community partners and contribute to service activities.
- Participate in program, school, college, and university service and outreach.
- Collaborate with colleagues in interdisciplinary teams.
- Doctoral degree in Public Health, Health Education, Global Health, or a closely related field (PhD conferred by August 1 2026 if ABD).
- Evidence of in‑person teaching experience at the college level in Public Health or a related curriculum.
- Demonstrated potential for a successful research program (publications, presentations, grant activity).
- Experience teaching multiple courses across the PBH curriculum.
- Previous public health, health education, or clinical work experience.
- Collaborative relationships with faculty, students, and community partners.
- Certifications such as CPH, CHES, or MCHES.
- Commitment to service at any level.
- Interest in curriculum development for culturally diverse populations.
- Commitment to personal and professional growth through development opportunities.
- Experience using AI in educational or professional settings.
