Position Description

Primary Purpose and Essential Functions

The Visiting Assistant Clinical Professor position is being hired for the new online Master of Social Work (MSW) track and will report directly to the Assistant Program Director for the online MSW track and the Department Chair. Online visiting assistant clinical faculty will be primarily responsible for teaching online asynchronous and/or hybrid courses.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teach or co‑teach online asynchronous and/or hybrid courses in areas of expertise, using innovative teaching modalities.
  • Create or co‑create online asynchronous and/or hybrid course content materials in the areas of expertise, including but not limited to:
    • Course syllabi.
    • Managing online course and course content.
    • Reading assignments.
    • Recorded and/or live lectures.
    • Outlines, scripts, voice‑over, podcasts, and similar.
    • Quizzes and exams.
    • Discussion boards.
    • Assignments.
    • Assessments.
    • Student support and guidance.
    • Instructions and overview.
    • Other teaching material.
  • Create a student‑centered learning environment, responsive to student needs in asynchronous and hybrid environments.
  • Prepare lectures, power points, videos, course content and other technology utilized to enhance teaching.
  • Engage regularly with students through online forums, communication, discussion activities, virtual meetings.
  • Grade learning activities and provide timely and constructive feedback.
  • Mentor student‑directed scholarly work.
  • Provide advising as needed and directed by the Assistant Program Director – Online MSW track or Department Chair.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Content expertise in generalist or specialized courses including but not limited to:
    • Health and social welfare policy and advocacy.
    • Social, behavioral, psychological interventions in health and behavioral health settings.
    • Research and evaluation.
    • Healthcare‑focused social work practice.
    • Behavioral health‑focused social work practice.
    • Mental health diagnosis and intervention.
    • Diabetes care and management.
    • Social work within health and aging.
    • School‑based social work practice.
    • Trauma‑informed practice.
    • Substance use assessment and treatment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master of Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE accredited institution.
  • Two (2) years post‑MSW social work practitioner experience in the field of social work.
  • One (1) year teaching experience in social work education full‑time or part‑time in asynchronous programs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in social work education, teaching asynchronously.
  • Experience with online learning management systems, education platforms and technologies.
  • Clinical social work licensure or eligibility for licensure.
  • Practice experience within one (1) or more of the following areas:
    • Medical/hospital social work.
    • Aging, palliative care, rehabilitation.
    • Community health.
    • Community mental health.
    • Behavioral health and integrated systems.
    • Healthcare evaluation and management.
    • Policy and advocacy work.
  • Demonstrated experience in online curriculum development and instructional design.
  • Experience in academic advising and student support services.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
