Position OverviewColearn Academy is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable High School Humanities Teacher to join our growing team. This full-time role serves high school students (grades 9–12) in a virtual, home-based learning environment. The Humanities Teacher provides engaging instruction in English Language Arts and Social Studies, supporting students in developing strong reading, writing, discussion, analytical, and civic literacy skills while partnering closely with families to support at-home learning.
The ideal candidate is passionate about inclusion, skilled in virtual instruction, and committed to building strong relationships with families and students.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging live and asynchronous instruction in high school English and Social Studies aligned with state standards
- Teach courses such as English I–IV, World History, U.S. History, Government, and other humanities courses as assigned
- Foster students’ skills in literary analysis, academic writing, research, discussion, historical thinking, and civic engagement
- Design learning experiences that integrate ELA and Social Studies through cross-curricular, inquiry-based projects when appropriate
- Provide timely, meaningful feedback on student work and maintain consistent communication with students and parents
- Support at-home learning by providing clear guidance, resources, and encouragement to families
- Track student progress, identify learning gaps, and provide interventions in collaboration with support staff
- Maintain accurate grade books, course documentation, and compliance requirements in the learning management system
- Collaborate with the instructional team to ensure vertical alignment across middle and high school humanities courses
- Participate in virtual staff meetings, professional development, and ongoing learning opportunities
- Build strong relationships with students and families and contribute to a positive school community
Qualifications
- Must reside in Arizona
- Valid state teaching certification in English Language Arts and Social Studies/History (Secondary)
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, History, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
- Experience teaching high school humanities courses
- Strong knowledge of state standards and graduation requirements for ELA and Social Studies
- Experience with virtual or blended instruction (preferred)
- Ability to design rigorous instruction that integrates reading, writing, research, and historical analysis
- Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
- Ability to partner effectively with parents in a home-based learning model
- Experience using learning management systems (Canvas, Schoology, or similar)
- Commitment to collaboration, continuous improvement, and student-centered instruction
