The Additional Learning Support Lead role is responsible for coordinating the learning support provided to students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Their primary purpose is to ensure these students can access the curriculum and achieve their full potential. This will involve a range of duties, including timetabling learning Support Assistants, coordinating with external agencies and curriculum staff, completing consultations and EHCP reviews and supporting exam access arrangements.
The Additional Learning Support Lead will act as a key point of contact for students, parents, and staff, advocating for students needs and promoting a culture of inclusivity and accessibility within the college.
The advertised Additional Learning Support Lead will line manage a team of staff focused on high needs support. This will include management of the Neuropod Mentors and overseeing the development of the provision as it grows, moving in to the new building, part of the exciting college new buildings development. They will line manage the Exams Access Arrangements Coordinator to ensure appropriate support for all learners during assessment.
This job role is full-time 40 weeks, based at Weybridge site but travelling to Ashford as needed, it is not suitable for home-working.
Main Duties and Responsibilities- Provide Equity and Individualised Support:
To ensure that each student with disabilities, learning difficulties, or long-term health conditions receive equitable support tailored to their specific, individual needs. This will include supporting the implementation of EHCP plans and the development of individual learner profiles. Ensuring consistency in the quality and completion of Learning Support Assistant student records. - Coordinate Support and Liaise with Agencies:
To work collaboratively with a wide range of individuals and external agencies, including teachers, college leadership, parents, and external stakeholders like psychologists, speech and language therapists, and occupational therapists to provide comprehensive support. Coordinate the timetabling of support staff to ensure all identified student needs are met in classrooms and exams. - Exam Access Arrangements (EAA):
Work with the Exams Team and line manage the Exams Access Arrangements Coordinator to ensure students receive the necessary adjustments (e.g., 25% extra time, readers, or scribes). - Neuropod:
Line manage the Neuropod Mentors and oversee the development and growth of the provision for ASC learners in the neuropod including transition to the new building. - Support and Train College Staff: A key duty is to provide advice, guidance, and training to support staff and classroom teachers on how to effectively support students with SEN.
- Inclusion:
To work closely with support services and curriculum departments to ensure the early identification of learner needs and implement appropriate support. The role will support the development of a universal support provision for all learners. - Funding & Compliance:
Lead on the assessment and evidence gathering for High Needs Funding (HNF) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
