Do you come from a hands-on Street Works or Highways background, with experience in CAT and Genny, traffic management, excavation, and reinstatement?
Are you looking for a Monday to Friday role at a leading higher education college, combining practical teaching with course leadership while shaping the next generation of skilled highways and utilities professionals?
This is an opportunity to join a highly respected HE college, known nationally for its technical and vocational training, with excellent industry links and purpose-built facilities. Significant investment has been made into workshops and training areas, giving staff and students access to professional-standard tools, vehicles, and learning environments.
Based at the York campus, this role sits within the Highways and Construction department and focuses on delivering and managing high-quality Street Works and highways programmes. You will lead courses that reflect real-world industry practice, develop engaging curriculum content, and support learners to achieve industry-recognised qualifications.
You will be training a small group of 12 students and will work in blocks, with week one based in the college teaching and weeks two to four out coaching, mentoring, and meeting with apprentices.
This role would suit someone from a practical highways, utilities, or street works background, ideally with experience in Chapter 8 (Red Book), CAT and Genny (locating underground services), traffic management, signage and traffic light setup, excavating roads or pavements, and surface reinstatement (slabs, paving, and asphalt).
This is a rare chance to combine your trade expertise with teaching and course leadership in a well-resourced college where your impact is visible every day.
The Role
* Teaching practical and theory Street Works and Highways sessions
* Hybrid role, combining college-based and home-based work
* Leading and managing agreed courses within the department
* Developing industry-relevant curriculum and resources
* Supporting, mentoring, and tracking student progress
* Working closely with the Curriculum Team Leader and department staff
* Liaising with employers to ensure courses remain aligned with industry needs
* Full-time, permanent position based at the York campus
The Person
* Comes from a Street Works, Highways, or Utilities background
* Strong practical experience in NRSWA procedures and reinstatement
* Confident with tools and equipment such as Stihl saws
* Holds NRSWA Reinstatement qualifications (Supervisor and Operative)
* Passionate about developing others and sharing industry skills
* Open to moving into teaching and course leadership (training provided)
