About the School
Do you bring an understanding, resilient, and compassionate approach, along with a strong commitment to delivering education to young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?
We are looking for a specialist SEND Teacher who can support students facing significant barriers to learning due to emotional, behavioural, or mental health needs. You will need to create nurturing, inclusive environments, implementing tailored, trauma-informed strategies to help pupils build resilience, manage emotions, and re-engage with education, often working in special schools or inclusion units.

- Key Responsibilities
Individualized Support and Planning:
Develop, implement, and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Tailored
Education:
Developing personalized learning plans (IEPs) that adapt the curriculum to meet individual needs, emphasizing emotional literacy and self-regulation.
Behaviour Management:
Using positive, restorative, and, if necessary, de-escalation practices to manage challenging behaviour, recognizing it as a form of communication.
Building Relationships:
Establishing safe, trusting relationships with students to boost self-esteem and foster a sense of belonging.
Collaboration:
Working closely with families, support staff, and external professionals to provide a holistic, multi-agency approach to support.
Inclusion Focus:
Championing student differences while equipping them with the skills to overcome obstacles to learning.
Pastoral Care and Well-being:
Promote mental health by providing a supportive, secure environment that fosters trust and emotional regulation.
Collaboration:
Work closely with parents, carers, therapists, psychologists, and external agencies to ensure holistic care.
Observation and Assessment:
Monitor student progress, not only academically but also in terms of social and emotional growth, identifying triggers for behaviours.
Training and Mentoring:
Offer advice to mainstream staff, run nurture groups, and contribute to staff training on SEMH strategies.
Previous experience teaching children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs (education, care, or youth settings)
A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to behaviour support
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
A sound understanding of SEMH and SEND strategies
SEND Teacher - To Be Eligible You Must:
Hold the Right to Work in the UK
Have an enhanced child barred list DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply)
Be able to provide two professional references (child-related preferred)
