About the job: We are looking for an Academic Coordinator with strong experience in people management, online chess coaching, and personnel training. This person will take full ownership of coaching operations and ensure the academic program runs seamlessly without glitches. The ideal candidate will have prior experience as an online chess coach and management experience within an educational institution or EdTech company.
Key Responsibilities:
Coach Management:
Ensure the coaching course runs strictly on schedule and that all coach deliverables are met.
Manage real-time logistics, including arranging substitute coaches and calculating compensation for coverage.
Resolve coach-related issues regarding batch management and liaise directly with the Student Ops Manager.
Oversee the scheduling of assessment coaches to ensure high-quality demo sessions for potential students.
Coach Hiring:
Lead the interview process for new coaching candidates, ensuring hires align with the club’s pedagogical standards and culture.
Manage the onboarding process, providing comprehensive knowledge transfer and setting clear performance expectations.
Coach Evaluation:
Audit sessions to evaluate coach adherence to the club’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Assess the quality of instruction and design customized performance improvement plans (PIPs) where necessary.
Conduct formal quarterly feedback sessions with every coach to discuss growth and operational improvements.
Coach Training & Development:
Identify skill gaps within the coaching staff and implement training modules to upskill them.
Mentor trainee coaches, providing the guidance necessary for them to transition into fully capable, independent coaches.
Train assessment coaches in the specific nuances of conducting high-conversion demo sessions.
Coaches Payroll Management:
Liaise with Human Resources to report accurate class counts and performance data for monthly payroll processing.
Act as the primary point of contact for coaches to resolve payroll-related queries in coordination with HR.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in any field.
2–5 years of experience as a Chess Coach (Online mode preferred).
1–3 years of experience in a management or supervisory role.
Having a FIDE rating would be preferable.
Prior experience in an EdTech or high-growth startup environment is a plus.
Skill
Required:
Operational Excellence: Proven ability to design, implement, and manage complex operational workflows in a fast-paced environment.
Remote Team Management: Proven ability to manage remote teams effectively and establish strong professional connections online.
Data Literacy: Ability to use spreadsheets (Excel/Sheets) to track performance metrics, attendance trends, and payroll data.
Quality Assurance: Skill in identifying deviations from the lesson plan and recognizing when the curriculum requires updates.
Strategic Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication for high-stakes feedback and reporting.
