Position: 11x DBE LEARNER SUPPORT AGENT [INTERNAL APPLICATION]

Purpose of the Role

The DBE Learner Support Agent (LSA) will assist in the provision of psychosocial, academic, and structural support to vulnerable learners at both primary and secondary school levels. Working within the framework of the HIV/AIDS Life Skills Education Programme and the Care and Support for Teaching and Learning (CSTL) initiative, the LSA will also support implementation of AYP Core Services and Peer Education interventions in schools and community safe spaces.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide emotional and psychosocial support to vulnerable learners.
  • Accompany learners to access social welfare services, including referrals.
  • Support academic development by assisting learners with homework, particularly those in child- and granny-headed households.
  • Facilitate peer education programmes (e.g., Soul Buddyz, MTV Shuga, DBE Peer Education) both in schools and in safe spaces.
  • Collaborate with educators and School-Based Support Teams (SBSTs) to coordinate HIV/AIDS, TB, and COVID-19 prevention-related commemorative events.
  • Establish and manage community stakeholder networks that enhance learner support systems.
  • Provide home-based academic support for pregnant or sick learners and those who are absent for extended periods.
  • Compile and submit monthly and quarterly reports to the school principal and district LSA supervisor.
  • Provide additional support for counselling and learner wellness across the circuit.
  • Deliver AYP Core Package services in community safe spaces, especially during school holidays and outreach activities.
  • Perform other duties as delegated by supervisors or management.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
  • A recognised Certificate or Diploma in Community Development or Social Auxiliary Work.
  • A valid Police Clearance Certificate is required.
Required Skills and Competencies
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • Effective communication, listening, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications:
    Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to engage with learners, educators, and stakeholders in a professional manner.
  • Capacity to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
