Assistant Professor In Sustainable Agentic AI

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is establishing a mission‑driven collaboration on research and technology challenges of Zero‑touch Systems. The mission is to design, develop, verify, and validate self‑healing, autonomous systems that are resilient, intelligent, adaptive, secure, and trustworthy. The research will produce proven, integrated, and demonstrable solutions that enable autonomous systems whose performance is always guaranteed and reliably trusted by humans.
The role focuses on Agentic AI to create fully autonomous systems that are data‑, resource‑efficient, and scalable, advancing the current boundaries of full autonomy and enabling efficient AI‑driven services for society. You will build a community around these research questions and drive breakthroughs that ensure learning, automatic adaptability, responsible use, and wide adoption.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing Agentic AI for enabling full autonomy of systems
- Developing “future‑proof” methods for software engineering for autonomous systems
- Developing new methods to guarantee the safety and reliability of zero‑touch systems
- Designing and developing “future‑proof” sustainable and scalable Agentic AI models
- Enabling/facilitating adoption and use cases of developed models
- Contributing to national/university scientific roadmaps in sustainable AI
- Facilitating schools nationally and worldwide to deploy research‑based instruments
- Highly motivated researcher with a PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics, and a strong publication record in intelligent system design, engineering, software technology, and verification, with outstanding research achievements and international recognition
- Strong impact record beyond standard academic outreach such as publication in top venues
- At least two years of academic work experience after obtaining PhD
- Ability to conduct high‑quality academic research reflected in demonstrable outputs
- Motivated to teach and develop excellent teaching skills
- Excellent team player with strong cooperation skills and evidence of interdisciplinary teamwork
- Effective communication and leadership skills, including coaching, mentoring, and leading projects or groups
- Excellent written and verbal proficiency in English
- Salary in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, scale 11 (min. €4.728, max. €6.433)
- A year‑end bonus of 8.3% and annual vacation pay of 8%
