The University of Greater Manchester is seeking a motivated and student‑focused individual to join the Directorate of Student Services & Experience as a Student Advisor.
This is a key front‑facing role providing high‑quality information, advice and guidance to prospective and current students. You will play an important part in ensuring students are supported to navigate their university experience, access services, and overcome any barriers to success.
Responsibilities- Reporting to the Team Leader:
Student Support, Advice and Funding, you will act as a first point of contact for a wide range of student enquiries. - Working within a fast‑paced and dynamic environment, you will deliver responsive, accurate, and professional advice across a broad range of areas including student funding, financial support, disability & inclusion, wellbeing services, and general student support.
- Utilising a range of delivery methods, including face‑to‑face, digital platforms, and drop‑in sessions, ensuring students can access support in ways that meet their needs.
- Providing high‑quality information, advice and guidance to students on a range of topics including funding, financial support, and disability support.
- Acting as a triage point, identifying student needs and referring complex enquiries to specialist support teams.
- Administering student funding processes, including supporting Student Support Fund (SSF) applications, emergency loans and bursaries.
- Maintaining accurate records of all interactions using university systems and contributing to data reporting and service improvement.
- Supporting the delivery of student‑focused activities such as inductions, workshops, and events.
- Experience working in a busy, customer‑facing environment, ideally within higher education or a similar setting.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain information clearly and sensitively to a diverse student population.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure.
- Good administrative and organisational skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- A proactive and flexible approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A relevant qualification in customer service, advice and guidance, or equivalent experience is desirable.
