Position: Online University Arts & Sciences Instructor - Paleontology 201 (26:079)

Term of Appointment

January - April 2027 (96 hours total)

Salary and Benefits

$50.07 – $56.75/hr, depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional 2% on all regular earnings in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation pay, and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay day. Employees in this division have the opportunity to enrol in the College Pension Plan, with contributions matched by the Employer.

This contract will be for a total of 96 hours.

Description

NLC's University Arts and Sciences program requires an online instructor to teach Paleontology 201:
Life of the Past

, during the Winter 2026 semester. Although the contract begins in December to allow for preparation time, course delivery will begin January 5th.

Schedule:

Mon/Wed 4:15 p.m. – 5:40 p.m.

This course provides an introduction to the major events in the evolutionary history of planet from its formation 4.6 billion years ago to the last Ice Age. The emphasis is on the appearance and extinction of major groups of organisms, and the factors influencing these changes: geology, climate, and the changes in flora and fauna themselves. The course will impart a greater understanding of the interconnectedness of geology, climate, and the organisms on Earth.

This is not a remedial course.

This course will be delivered by distance through Microsoft Teams.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Master's Degree in Paleontology.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Committed to student motivation and achievement; and
  • Ability to collaborate as an effective team member.
Preferred:
  • PhD in Paleontology.
  • The Provincial Instructor Diploma Program or an equivalent credential in adult education, or a readiness to pursue such a credential.
  • Previous instructional experience in a post-secondary environment;
  • Experience using learning management systems (LMS) and teaching through multiple delivery modalities, and
  • Experience instructing a culturally diverse group of students, including Indigenous and international students.
