Assistant Professor in Dynamics and Computational Design of High-Tech Systems

The Dynamics and Control section of the Mechanical Engineering department at Eindhoven University of Technology seeks a passionate and talented Assistant Professor to expand its team.

Responsibilities
  • Develop internationally leading research and make significant contributions to high‑impact journals.
  • Set up and drive your own independent research program by writing research proposals to acquire public and private funding; lead or contribute to multidisciplinary research projects with diverse external funding sources.
  • Contribute to or lead the development of the Mechanical Engineering Bachelor’s and Master’s teaching programmes; teach lectures and tutorials at both levels.
  • Supervise and mentor BSc, MSc, EngD and PhD students during their research projects and internships.
  • Actively stimulate the valorisation of your research in industry and society.
  • Contribute to the success of the research group, department and associated institutes by initiating, participating in or leading new internal and external collaborations.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Applied Mathematics with a focus on dynamical systems and control.
  • Strong computational profile with proven experience in one of the following topics:
    Integrated Design Optimization of Mechatronic Systems, Generative AI for Automated System Design, High‑Performance Computational Methods for Dynamical Systems.
  • Knowledge or expertise in application domains closely related to mechanical engineering (e.g. mechatronics, high‑tech systems, cyber‑physical systems, automotive systems, transportation systems, healthcare, smart industry, energy systems).
  • Ability to conduct high‑quality academic research demonstrated through publications.
  • Motivation to teach and willingness to develop excellent teaching skills.
  • Strong drive to valorise research for societal and industrial impact.
  • Interest in strengthening industrial collaborations within the Brainport area and internationally.
  • Excellent collaboration and interdisciplinary teamwork skills.
  • Effective communication, leadership, coaching and mentoring abilities.
  • Excellent proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
Conditions of Employment
  • Salary in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, scale 11 (min. €4,728 – max. €6,433 gross per month).
  • Year‑end bonus of 8.3% and annual vacation pay of 8%.
  • Start‑up package available to support hiring a PhD student for four years.
  • Possibility of an immediate tenured position for candidates with a demonstrably qualified profile and at least two years of relevant experience after their PhD.
  • Dedicated mentoring programme to help you acclimatise to the university and Dutch research environment.
  • Access to modern technical infrastructure, on‑campus children’s daycare and a high‑quality sports centre.
  • Partially paid parental leave and allowance for commuting, working from home and internet costs.
  • Opportunity for part‑time employment starting at 0.8 FTE (minimum 32 hours a week).
  • Flexible start date agreed with the candidate.
