We have excellent opportunities for Educational Psychologists to join our Educational Psychology Team here at Wokingham Borough Council on a Permanent, full or part-time basis.

We operate a hybrid working model with office base, setting visits and remote working, encouraging a positive work life balance. This is a pivotal time to join the service as we expand and develop our service delivery in line with the proposed changes through the ‘Experts at Hand’ approach.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly regarded Educational Psychology Service who have strong relationships with educational settings and professionals within the local authority. Our service operates a link EP model, offering you the chance to build strong relationships with schools and settings, and to work at multiple levels – from individual casework to whole-school and wider systemic initiatives.

We place consultation at the core of our work, using it to build understanding, empower others, and promote sustainable change. Capacity for early intervention work is facilitated through the use of locum EPs to complete a number of EHCNAs.

You will join a service with a supportive and collaborative team culture where wellbeing and professional growth are prioritised. Regular high-quality supervision and peer support is provided. We are a reflective service who value innovation and new ideas, EPs are encouraged and supported to develop areas of specialism.

We play a significant role in shaping Local Authority responses to key priorities, including EBSA, SEMH, Early Years, and neurodiversity. We have a well-developed training programme for local education settings including our annual Nurture Assistant training.

We welcome applications from qualified EPs or trainee EPs in year 2 or 3 of the doctoral training course.

Key Responsibilities

  • Statutory work associated with Education Health and Care needs assessments and the requisite written work and attendance at meetings.
  • Non-statutory work associated with meeting the needs of children and young people with additional needs. Work includes individual, whole school and systemic approaches and will evolve as the Experts at Hand model is developed.
  • Developing and delivering training to educational settings and other stakeholders
  • Ensuring the voice of the child is captured and represented
  • Developing interests in and offering a lead on aspects of educational psychology practice and service delivery in relation to specialist areas of interest that align with the needs of the service and WBC Children’s service.
  • Working in partnership with parent/carers, setting staff and liaising with other involved professional as part of the assessment and intervention process.
  • Maintaining up to date appropriate secure records on the children and young people who access the service

Candidate Requirements

  • A doctorate in Educational Psychology
  • An Honours degree in Psychology or recognised equivalent, which entitles the holder to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society and HCPC
  • Experience gained either through previous/current employment as an Educational Psychologist or via professional training
  • Applications will be accepted from trainee Educational Psychologists who are in year two or three of the doctorate in Educational Psychology Course.
