Job Description & How to Apply Below

Introduction

Do you have a passion for computer systems and explainable AI, especially for resource‑limited embedded systems? Are you driven to make intelligent networked (embedded) systems more reliable and trustworthy, and do you have a track record in networked (embedded) system research needed to turn that ambition into impact? Then you may be exactly the candidate we are looking for.

Job Description

You will join the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (M&CS) at TU/e, the largest department of the university with over 140 faculty and nearly 3,000 students. The Interconnected Resource-aware Intelligent Systems (IRIS) cluster seeks a full‑time assistant professor to address challenges related to the design, development and maintenance of the next generation of explainable, transparent, and trustworthy networked embedded systems
. You will focus on advancing techniques that make embedded intelligence understandable, from communication protocols that preserve contextual information to algorithms capable of producing human‑interpretable outputs. Your work will span embedded network‑software boundaries, ensuring that distributed components, sensing/actuation pipelines and decision‑making algorithms remain transparent and traceable across domains such as automotive, smart industry, logistics, smart cities and health.

Job Requirements
  • PhD in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering with a strong publication record at the intersection of explainable AI and networked (embedded) systems and outstanding research achievements, complemented by international recognition (invited talks, editorial board membership, etc.).
  • At least 2‑3 years of academic work experience post‑PhD.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct high‑quality research evidenced by publications in top venues.
  • Proven ability to bridge explainability methods with networked (embedded) systems.
  • Motivation to teach and develop excellent teaching skills.
  • Strong cooperation skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills, including coaching and mentoring of students and leading projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal proficiency in English.
Conditions of Employment

A meaningful job in a dynamic and ambitious university, within an international network. You will work on a green campus within walking distance of the central train station. Benefits include:

  • A year‑end bonus of 8.3% and annual vacation pay of 8%.
  • A dedicated mentoring program to help you acclimate to the Dutch research environment.
  • A development track with prospect of becoming an Associate Professor; senior candidates will receive a tailor‑made career proposal.
  • Excellent technical infrastructure, on‑campus children’s day‑care and sports facilities.
  • Partially paid parental leave and allowances for commuting, working from home and internet costs.
Type of Employment
