Role Description The Online Coding Tutor role is a remote, contract position focused on teaching coding and related STEM topics to students in live, online classes. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and delivering interactive lessons, guiding students through project-based activities using platforms like Scratch, Python, Minecraft, or Roblox, and providing clear explanations of coding concepts. The tutor will monitor student progress, give constructive feedback, adapt teaching methods to different learning styles, and help learners build problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
Additional tasks include maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment, communicating with families or guardians when needed, and collaborating with the CreateNLearn team on curriculum improvements and best practices.
Qualifications
Coding and technical skills:
Strong proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, or block-based coding tools such as Scratch) and familiarity with platforms like Minecraft, Roblox, or similar educational technology tools.
Teaching and communication skills:
Experience in tutoring or teaching youth, clear verbal and written communication, ability to explain technical concepts in simple terms, and skill in facilitating engaging, interactive online sessions.
Curriculum and lesson delivery skills:
Ability to follow and adapt a curriculum, design project-based activities, and use digital tools to present lessons, track progress, and support different learning styles.
Classroom and student management skills:
Comfort managing small groups online, encouraging participation, creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment, and handling basic technical or engagement issues during live sessions.
Additional beneficial qualifications:
Prior experience in STEM or computer science education, familiarity with AI or creative coding tools, reliable high-speed internet and suitable home workspace, availability during after-school or weekend hours, and a commitment to learner-centered, non-discriminatory teaching practices.
