Job Overview

We are seeking dedicated Behavioural Mentors to work with students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (Years 7-11). This role is perfect for those who want to make a tangible difference in the lives of students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, or those who display challenging behaviour.

As a Behavioural Support Assistant, you will act as a stabiliser in the classroom, helping students regulate emotions and remain engaged in their education.

This position offers an excellent springboard for aspiring Educational Psychologists, Social Workers, Youth Justice Workers, or SEN Teachers.

Responsibilities
  • Recognise triggers and use low-level de-escalation techniques to prevent classroom disruptions and keep students on task.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group mentorship, building rapport, improving social skills, and boosting self-esteem through structured intervention.
  • Assist the schools Inclusion or Bridge unit, providing a safe space for students who find the mainstream classroom environment overwhelming.
  • Collaborate with the SENCO and Pastoral Leads to implement individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs) and ensure a consistent approach to student welfare.
Qualifications
  • Character, resilience, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Relevant experience in a PRU (Pupil Referral Unit), youth work, sports coaching, residential care, or a background in psychology, policing, or the military.
  • Strong communication skills, able to build trust with hard-to-reach teenagers while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
  • Enhanced DBS (or willing to obtain) and commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.
Benefits
  • Typical school hours (approx. 8:30 am – 3:30 pm) with no take-home work, allowing time to recharge after a high-energy day.
  • Competitive daily rates and regular pay on Fridays.
