Job Summary
The Ontario Tech University Library invites applications for a subject specialist Liaison Librarian (full‑time, contract). The successful candidate will join a dynamic team of Liaison Librarians who contribute to fulfilling the Library’s mandate of supporting the teaching, learning, and research missions of both Ontario Tech University and Durham College. The team is responsible for building and curating excellent collections necessary to support the curriculum and for contributing to student success and engagement through research and reference services, information literacy instruction, and both one‑on‑one and classroom settings, including online.

Some evening and weekend shifts may be required. Librarians are currently working in a hybrid remote work model, with a minimum of 2 days per week required on campus.

Reporting to the Associate University Librarian, Scholarly Resources, the selected candidate will be responsible for outreach and liaison with the Faculty of Health Sciences at both institutions and for providing research support, consultations, information literacy, collection development, and related projects. The incumbent will maintain awareness of developments in health science fields, information and digital literacies, scholarly communication, open access, digital scholarship, pedagogy, and emerging trends in higher education.

Responsibilities include supporting library assessment and continuous improvement initiatives, compiling and analyzing service data, and producing reports for institutional quality and accreditation processes. Other projects or initiatives may also be assigned.

Responsibilities / Accountabilities

Information Literacy & Research Services

Collaborate in planning, delivery, and evaluation of information literacy initiatives, including development and maintenance of eLearning content.

Teach library classes and deliver workshops on diverse subjects and specialized services (e.g., copyright, research metrics, data, and geospatial) in person and online.

Integrate library resources into the curriculum through faculty liaison, workshops, and class sessions.

Provide general and subject‑specific reference assistance in person, online, and by telephone, including small‑group and individual consultations.

Develop and maintain customized information resources and tools, such as research guides.

Build an understanding of the research landscape at both institutions.

Support research across the scholarly communication cycle, including compliance with open‑access deposit requirements and research data management policy, publishing support, and research impact metrics.

Promote and support use of specialized information and resources (e.g., bibliographic, statistical, data, geospatial, citation management tools).

Provide research support and instruction for systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and other knowledge synthesis projects.

Outreach & Liaison

Promote library services and resources across the university and college community through multiple communication channels.

Establish and maintain professional relationships with faculty, staff, students, and other library users.

Collaborate with library, university, college, and educational partners to promote library services.

Participate in professional organizations and consortial initiatives.

Advance strategic directions such as scholarly communication, digital scholarship, open access, and publishing institutional scholarly output.

Collection Development

Build and manage collections that support teaching and research needs of both institutions.

Engage in innovative and emerging collection development practices, including selection and deselection of various resource types and formats.

Required Skills

Maintain knowledge of emerging trends in higher education and academic librarianship.

Proactively advance principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion in library programs, services, and collections.

Knowledge and experience in collection development and emerging collection management practices.
