Position: Secondary Online Learning Teacher – Humanities 2026-27
Edmonton Islamic Academy is seeking a qualified and passionate Secondary Online Learning Teacher – Humanities to join our growing team. We are looking for an outstanding educator who is committed to creating engaging virtual learning experiences for students in Grades 7–9 in our Bloom Teacher Directed Program.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in Humanities, including English Language Arts and Social Studies, and is passionate about helping students develop critical thinking, communication, research, and analytical skills. This role requires an educator who is highly organized, adaptable, and technology-proficient, with the ability to build strong relationships with students and parents while supporting learning in an online environment. This position involves instruction and communication delivered primarily through online platforms.

This position has an FTE of 0.7.

Key Responsibilities Teach and support secondary home education students in Humanities courses, including English Language Arts and Social Studies. Deliver engaging online instruction through live lessons, virtual meetings, and digital learning platforms. Develop and implement individualized learning plans that align with Alberta curriculum outcomes and student goals. Support students in developing strong reading, writing, research, communication, and critical thinking skills. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and learning styles.

Monitor student progress, provide meaningful feedback, and maintain accurate academic records. Assess student work and prepare progress reports in accordance with Alberta Education requirements. Communicate regularly with students and parents regarding academic progress, expectations, and support strategies. Create engaging digital learning resources, assignments, and assessments. Utilize educational technology and online learning tools to enhance student engagement and achievement. Collaborate with administration, fellow teachers, and support staff to ensure student success.

Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school initiatives. Foster a positive and inclusive faith-based learning environment. Qualifications & Requirements Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or higher from an accredited institution (or equivalent). Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate or Interim Professional Certificate. Specialization, experience, or strong background in Secondary Humanities, including English Language Arts and/or Social Studies. Experience teaching junior high and/or high school students.

Strong understanding of Alberta curriculum outcomes for secondary Humanities courses. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to teach, assess, and support students in an online learning environment. Advanced proficiency with Google Workspace Experience creating digital learning resources and managing online classrooms. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to work independently while managing multiple students and responsibilities. Commitment to student success, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Experience in home education, online learning, or alternative education programs is considered an asset. Experience in a faith-based or culturally diverse educational environment is considered an asset. Work Environment Remote work model Daily interaction with students occurs primarily through virtual platforms and online learning tools. Requires flexibility to support students and families through scheduled online instruction, one-on-one meetings, and ongoing digital communication.

Frequent use of educational technology, Google Workspace, and digital collaboration tools is essential. Required Documents (Upon Hire)
