The Role
We are looking for a Lecturer who can work together with our existing team to deliver and evolve our undergraduate Character Design and Concept Art course. Our expanded portfolio of Design courses has resulted in staff movement and so we now need additional staff to deliver in this growing area for Ravensbourne.
Sitting within the Design department, our Character Design and Concept Art course needs a candidate who has undergraduate teaching experience and a proven track record of a student-first approach. The ideal candidate has some industry experience working in the fields of illustration, animation and wider commercial art with a knowledge of the industry pipeline in the creative industries. Working successfully with and within a team is a high priority.
A practical and hands-on teaching style is essential.
The role is in the region of 21 hours per week in our Design department, running modules, and developing an engaging curriculum whilst working alongside a range of disciplines both within the design department and with other departments (such as Animation and Illustration).
At Ravensbourne University London, we are focused on preparing students for industry. This means working to high standards with complex and evolving technology and being familiar with the direction of the industry. You’ll be working closely with our BA Character Design and Concept Art course leader to further our current collaborations with prominent industry partners and an innovative work-based learning programme.
If you have a passion for guiding students toward success in the ever-evolving world of Character Design and Concept Art, specialising in a hands-on, commercial approach, please consider applying to join our team.
The Candidates
- A calm, pragmatic, and student-centred approach with a commitment to student development and success.
- Module leadership experience of BA level Art and an understanding of the responsibilities that the role brings.
- An industry track record and recognised profile in Character Design and Concept Art or wider Illustration practice, with currently published work.
- An appropriate working knowledge of recognised professional software workflows, specifically After Effects, Blender, Photoshop and Cinema 4D. Knowledge of Storyboard Pro is a plus.
- A thorough knowledge of drawing fundamentals and ideation for narrative purposes.
