Position: Online University Arts & Sciences Instructor - CRIM 101 & 135 (26:119)

Term of App't:

September 2026 - April 2027 (approx. 5.5 hrs/wk)

Reporting to:
Dean, Academics

Salary: $50.07 - $56.75/hr, depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional 2% on all regular earnings in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation pay and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay day. Employees in this division have the opportunity to enroll in the College Pension Plan, with contributions matched by the Employer.

Description

NLC requires one, or more sessional online instructor(s) to teach the sections as indicated below – with each contract consisting of approx. 96 hours. Each contract will allow for the applicable prep time prior to the start of classes. Course delivery will take place with MS Office Teams.

CRIM 101:
Introduction to Criminology
- This course offers an historical and contemporary examination of criminology. It provides a foundation of terms and concepts commonly used in the field as well as a look at how thoughts on crime, criminals and criminal justice have developed in Canada. (Fall = Sep

CRIM 135:
Intro to Canadian Law & Legal
- This course will introduce the student to the Canadian legal system. The student will gain a historical perspective of the development of Canadian law, Canadian court systems, the Canadian constitution, and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms plus an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of judges and lawyers in the legal system.

The student will also examine legal principles and doctrines such as precedent, legal research, legal reasoning, and statutory interpretation as well as explore how these principles and doctrines are applied to the fields of contract, tort, administrative, family, and criminal law. (Winter = Jan

Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Criminology
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Committed to student motivation and achievement; and
  • Ability to collaborate as an effective team member.
Preferred
  • PhD in Criminology
  • The Provincial Instructor Diploma Program or an equivalent credential in adult education, or a readiness to pursue such a credential.
  • Previous instructional experience in a post-secondary environment;
  • Experience using learning management systems (LMS) and teaching through multiple delivery modalities, and
  • Experience instructing a culturally diverse group of students, including Indigenous and international students.
