JOB DESCRIPTION Employment status and working hours

Fixed term for 10 months, part time for a total of 200 hours for the duration of the contract period – hours will vary week on week to allow for flexibility, however you will be provided with a clear timetable for all face to face teaching/tutoring.

Full time hours at the University are 35 per week with the standard working pattern Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00. At LSA, the weekly working pattern is Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 18:00.

Your line manager will be Dr Ruth Lang, March Programme Leader, with oversight from Lee Ivett, Head of School.

The majority of your working time will be spent at The London School of Architecture (The LSA) office at 4 Beechwood Road, London, E8 3DY
and the rest may be at your home*. Whilst it is a requirement for all academic teaching/tutoring and meetings to take place at Beechwood Road, other scholarly, administrative and preparatory activities may be completed remotely.
* Working from home is only possible if your environment is suitable.

The Design Studio Tutor (Lecturer) plays a key role in delivering an engaging and high-quality learning experience that supports student success. Working closely with Module and Programme Leaders, you will lead interactive workshops, tutorials, and reviews that encourage participation, curiosity, and critical thinking. You will actively monitor student engagement and wellbeing, providing timely, constructive formative and summative feedback to support development and progress.

You will contribute to the effective delivery and continuous improvement of modules through collaboration, accurate record-keeping, and participation in assessment and moderation processes. Your insights will help enhance teaching quality and the overall student experience.

By working closely with academic and support teams, you will help create a supportive, inclusive environment where students feel confident to succeed and realise their potential.

The LSA offers an innovative model of architectural education, combining studio-based learning with embedded professional experience. We are a small school with a big mission, currently offering a single academic programme: a two-year postgraduate MArch in Designing Architecture. The Programme is prescribed by the Architects Registrations Board and validated by the Royal Institute of British Architects. The LSA also runs community and outreach programmes for young people.

In May 2025, The LSA merged with University of the Built Environment (the University). The University is a leading specialist university for the built environment and The LSA will retain its name and distinct identity. • Support the delivery of the module, participating in workshops, tutoring sessions, and reviews, as required by the Module Leader to facilitate interaction with and engagement by students.
• Engage with associated learning resources to stimulate student activity and engagement.
• Monitor student wellbeing in module groups, addressing any concerns sensitively and effectively in collaboration with the Programme Leader and Academic and Student Support teams.
• Provide the student cohort with regular feedback on their contributions - both informally during sessions, and with written feedback following Formative and Summative assessment points.

• Participate in regular meetings with the Module Leaders.
• Notify any student engagement problems to the Programme Leader for action.
• Support the maintenance of accurate records of attendance in collaboration with the Academic and Student Support teams.
