This employment opportunity is restricted to residents of Iqaluit only. An eligibility list may be created to fill future vacancies. As this is a term position ending 2029 or in 3 Years, current indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees may be offered a competitive transfer assignment for the duration of the term if they are deemed to be the successful candidate, however this is subject to managerial approval.

Reporting to the Chair, Inuit Languages and Culture Programs, the Instructor, Interpreter Translator Program is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in the Interpreter Translator and Inuit Studies Programs at Nunavut Arctic College in Iqaluit. The position prepares students for professional careers as legal, medical, and community interpreters and translators by developing and delivering course content using adult learning principles across in-person, blended, and online environments.

This Instructor supports program development, student assessment, and practicum coordination, while ensuring instructional materials and program delivery meet College standards and respond to the linguistic, cultural, and professional needs of Nunavut communities.

• Delivering lessons using a variety of instructional strategies; including face-to-face, blended, and/or online;
• Ensuring instruction meets the professional standards of the College;

Researching, reviewing and recommending resource materials to implement or enhance the program or courses;

• Providing academic guidance, assessment, and support to learners, including monitoring progress and maintaining accurate academic records;
• Contributing to ongoing program development, quality assurance, student recruitment, and continuous professional learning.

The role requires advanced English comprehension and writing skills, an understanding of English medical terminology, and the ability to support and manage student practicums.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position are normally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree in education or a related field, along with one (1) year of related teaching or instructional experience. A Certificate in Adult Education, experience teaching and supervising adult learners, and work experience in roles involving bilingual communication and complex multicultural environments are considered assets.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
