Remote Agricultural Extension Specialist - Technology Adoption

This role is entirely remote and focuses on promoting the adoption of new agricultural technologies and modern farming techniques among farmers. You will be responsible for developing and delivering educational content, providing technical support, and facilitating knowledge transfer to enhance productivity, sustainability, and resilience in agriculture.

• Develop and deliver engaging training materials, workshops, and online resources on agricultural technologies (e.g., precision farming tools, digital record-keeping, new crop varieties, sustainable practices).
• Provide remote technical assistance and troubleshooting support to farmers adopting new technologies.
• Conduct online needs assessments to identify farmer challenges and tailor extension services accordingly.
• Facilitate farmer-to-farmer learning networks and knowledge-sharing platforms.
• Collaborate with researchers, technology providers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and up-to-date information is disseminated.
• Monitor the adoption rates of new technologies and gather feedback for program improvement.
• Translate complex technical information into easily understandable language for diverse farming audiences.
• Contribute to the development of digital extension tools and platforms.
• Stay informed about emerging agricultural technologies and best practices.
• Prepare reports on extension activities, impact, and farmer feedback.

• A Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Extension, Agronomy, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
• A minimum of 4 years of experience in agricultural extension, training, or a related role, preferably with a focus on technology transfer.
• Solid understanding of modern agricultural practices and emerging technologies relevant to South African farming.
• Proven ability to develop and deliver educational content in various formats (online, presentations, written materials).
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
• Proficiency in using digital communication and collaboration tools (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, email platforms).
• Experience with data collection and basic analysis to report on program impact.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote work environment.
• Knowledge of different agricultural sub-sectors within South Africa is beneficial.
• A patient and empathetic approach to supporting farmers.
