Overview
About the role NESO recognises the potential of bright and talented individuals, and we encourage you to join us as Great Britain’s energy system undergoes an ambitious, exciting, and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, more sustainable energy future. The National Energy System Operator (NESO) is taking on the exciting new role of developing Regional Energy Strategic Plans (RESPs) for 11 regions and nations across Great Britain.
The South West RESPs will reflect regional characteristics, driving whole energy considerations across energy vectors including renewables, heat decarbonisation, hydrogen, energy networks, transport and flexibility. A South West based team is needed to work with regional, national, and central teams to build the hub and spokes for energy planning, to benefit from and reflect local inputs. Our immediate focus is to build trust with stakeholders, establish our process and methodology, and grow capability in whole energy systems to support credible plans for net zero.
Further information on RESP is found here:
Regional Energy Strategic Planning (RESP) | National Energy System Operator. Having an understanding and lived experience of the South West of England will be key. This role will begin as home-based, but will transition to the South West office when opened. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.
About Us The creation of National Energy System Operator (NESO) is driven by an urgent need to unify and optimise our approach to energy. A more integrated and coordinated strategy is needed to meet the unprecedented challenges of climate change, ensure secure energy supply, and keep costs manageable for consumers. Join us and empower your potential, energise our team, and be part of something bigger.
Your energy, our future, together.
About The National Energy System Operator (NESO) In Autumn of 2024, the ESO transitioned to National Energy System Operator, or NESO for short. The organisation is the independent body responsible for planning Great Britain’s electricity and gas networks and operating the electricity system. NESO will build on existing roles and capabilities to look across vectors including electricity, natural gas, and hydrogen, and consider trade-offs between them.
The organisation operates as a public corporation with its own Board of independent directors, with complete operational independence from government, the regulator, and other interests. NESO will be licenced and regulated by Ofgem through price control agreements and will identify optimal solutions for sustainable, affordable, and secure system operations and planning. The time to deliver is now and you’ll be part of shaping how energy is used and consumed for generations to come.
