Position Overview
We are seeking experienced 179D Energy Modelers to join our team on a contract basis. This role involves creating commercial building energy models using IRS-approved software to support Section 179D tax deduction certifications. The ideal candidate is highly efficient, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision to produce high-volume, quality energy models.
Key Responsibilities
Create energy models for commercial buildings using eQuest or other DOE-approved software (Energy Plus, Design Builder, DOE-2.2)
Analyze architectural drawings, specifications, and construction documents to build accurate 3-D energy models
Evaluate building systems including HVAC, lighting, and building envelope for 179D compliance
Compare building energy performance against ASHRAE 90.1 reference standards
Generate accurate energy modeling reports that meet IRS requirements for 179D certification
Complete multiple energy models efficiently within tight deadlines
Contribute to improving internal processes to increase scale and efficiency of 179D services
Maintain documentation and quality standards for all modeling work
Required Qualifications
Essential:
Proficiency in eQuest energy modeling software
Demonstrated experience with commercial building energy modeling
Ability to read and interpret architectural and mechanical drawings
Understanding of HVAC systems, lighting systems, and building envelope design
Knowledge of ASHRAE 90.1 standards
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
Ability to work independently with minimal direction
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience with Section 179D energy modeling (start to finish)
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil) or related field
Experience with additional DOE-approved software (Energy Plus, Design Builder, DOE-2.2, Trane TRACE)
Familiarity with LEED, ENERGY STAR, or other green building certifications
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) certification
BEMP (Building Energy Modeling Professional) certification
Experience with process improvement and workflow optimization
