Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.
Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Gas Turbine Manager to contribute to our Net Zero Teesside(NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.
RolePurpose:
The Heavy-Duty Gas Turbine Manager is responsible for managing all activities related to the installation, alignment, and commissioning of heavy-duty gas turbine within a major clean energy project. This role ensures safe execution, technical compliance, and timely delivery of all gas turbine construction works in accordance with OEM standards and project requirements.
Project Execution & Coordination- Oversee the installation of heavy-duty gas turbine components, including compressor, combustion system, turbine rotor, bearings, and auxiliaries in conjunction with the GE Vernova site team.
- Coordinate with OEM representatives, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure adherence to design specifications and project schedule.
- Develop and maintain detailed work plans, progress tracking, and resource allocation for gas turbine activities.
- Embed collaborative working ensuring Transparency and speed built in.
- Review engineering drawings, OEM manuals, and installation procedures.
- Ensure precision alignment and assembly using specialized tools and techniques.
- Monitor and validate critical parameters during installation and commissioning, including clearances, torque settings, and thermal growth considerations.
- Enforce strict compliance with quality standards and OEM requirements.
- Implement health, safety, and environmental protocols for all gas turbine works.
- Maintain accurate records of alignment readings, torque settings, and installation parameters.
- Prepare daily and weekly progress reports for project management and stakeholders.
- Support commissioning documentation and handover to operations teams.
- Proven experience in heavy duty gas turbine installation and construction leadership.
- Strong understanding of turbine components, alignment procedures, and mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with OEM standards (e.g., GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and P&IDs.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Relevant engineering or technical qualification (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management).
- Safety certifications (e.g., CSCS, OSHA, IOSH, NEBOSH) preferred
