About the Role
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Grid Operations Specialist to contribute to the stability and efficiency of their energy sector operations in Vereeniging . This hybrid role requires hands‑on involvement in monitoring and controlling the electricity grid, ensuring seamless power delivery. You will work with advanced SCADA systems and collaborate with various teams to manage grid fluctuations, plan maintenance, and respond to disturbances.
This position offers a significant opportunity to be at the forefront of managing critical energy infrastructure and contribute to reliable power supply in the region.
- Monitor the electrical grid in real-time using SCADA and other control systems.
- Coordinate and implement grid switching orders for maintenance, construction, and emergency response.
- Analyze grid performance data to identify potential issues and recommend operational improvements.
- Communicate effectively with field operations, generation facilities, and other stakeholders during normal and emergency situations.
- Assist in the development and execution of load shedding and demand response programs.
- Maintain accurate operational logs and documentation for grid activities.
- National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in power utility operations or grid control.
- Proficiency with SCADA systems and energy management software.
- Strong understanding of power system principles, including load flow, voltage control, and protection.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
- Ability to work flexible hours as required by grid operations.
