Associate Distribution Engineer

Overview

Leidos is seeking Associate Distribution Engineers for electric utility design engineering. We are looking for someone dedicated to ensuring that every project, whether simple or complex, is of exceptional quality. You will work directly with clients to maintain Leidos' reputation for high-quality work.

This position has remote-working capabilities, but candidates must be located within a commutable distance of our Michigan support areas to be considered, so we can provide support to our local utility customer as needed. Selected candidates will be expected to be available for in-person meetings and assignments throughout the customer territory in Michigan on an as-needed basis. Some field work may be required.

Associate Distribution Engineers will support design and coordination activities under supervision of a technical lead, including work packages for OH, UG, URD, Make Ready and Street Light projects, using customer GIS and WMS systems such as GE Small world, Bentley Expert Designer and Maximo. You will be trained in customer engineering and construction standards and will coordinate conflicting utilities, develop design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, prepare work permits, and assist with ROW applications and design of mainline vault medium voltage switch gear, network system design, and distribution system protection and coordination.

Some field work may be required.

• Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV, focusing on programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspections, joint use, and inspection reports.
• Comply with Leidos and client safety requirements as well as design and quality expectations.
• Travel to sites as needed, perform inspections and return to the office to perform engineering design work.
• Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, conductor sag and tension for spans, and voltage drop and flicker calculations.
• Develop permitting documents for different AHJs.
• Provide engineering support during construction and conduct post-construction reviews to ensure applicable standards are met.
• Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
• Work a 4/10 schedule in the client’s office.

• Completed Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred) from an ABET accredited institution
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
• Ability to utilize a personal vehicle, as some customer-related travel could be anticipated (Job-related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
• Willingness to perform both field and office work; ability to work in outdoor environments on occasion
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills

• Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc or similar
• Experience using CAD tools, Micro Station and/or GIS
• Experience with NESC
• Experience with design standards

Pay Range $50,050.00 - $90,475.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation. Final offers are based on responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, market data, and other relevant factors.
