Situated in the heart of Burlington’s downtown district, our office sits high on the fourth floor of the Wells-Richardson historic building overlooking the beautiful Lake Champlain waterfront and Adirondack Mountains.
Responsibilities
- Design of treatment systems to safely, efficiently and effectively treat wastewater; creates domestic or industrial wastewater treatment plants and CSO facilities
- Analyzes operational data and performance of wastewater treatment systems, and makes recommendations for troubleshooting process operations and process optimization
- Assesses the need for wastewater treatment systems based on current and projected future residences and conducts feasibility studies for the construction of WWTF
- Analyzes various wastewater treatment methods; recommends most effective method
- Analyzes treatments and disposal options for sludge, and recommends and develops sludge treatment plans or methods to best serve the assigned area
- Analyzes combined sewer system hydraulics
- Designs layout and specifications for sanitary collection systems and pump stations
- Designs layout and specifications for Combined Sewer Overflow storage and treatment systems
- Reviews and critiques water and wastewater treatment system proposals, plans and designs
- Conducts appropriate cost-benefit analyses for assigned projects
- Collaborates with contractors regarding construction of new conveyance and treatment systems
- Ensures building and equipment specifications comply with applicable local, state and federal guidelines and codes
- Conducts environmental studies regarding the collection, treatment or distribution of wastewater
- Maintains knowledge and subject matter expertise
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- BS (MS Preferred) in Civil/ Environmental Engineering
- 10-15 years of experience planning and designing wastewater treatment facilities, wastewater pumping stations, and/ or sanitary collection systems
- Experience in planning and design of CSO facilities including conveyance, storage and treatment
- Strong oral/ written communication skills
- Salary is contingent on experience
