?? About the Role

As a Senior Roadway Engineer (Engineer IV), you will take the technical lead on complex civil roadway design projects and manage engineering teams to deliver innovative solutions for state DOTs, counties, and municipalities. You will independently manage your workload, mentor younger engineers, and drive the production of high-quality construction documents, reports, and specifications.

This role offers the flexibility to work from one of our offices in Chicago, Peoria, IL, or Crown Point, IN, with a hybrid remote work schedule to support work-life balance.

What You’ll Do

• Lead roadway design efforts from concept through construction documentation for arterial streets, urban corridors, highways, and local roads.

• Direct and support a team of engineers and technicians in the development of roadway plans, specifications, estimates, and calculations.

• Prepare horizontal and vertical alignments, cross sections, traffic staging, ADA ramp design, and utility coordination.

• Perform geometric design per AASHTO, state DOT, and local agency standards using Micro Station and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

• Conduct engineering studies and technical evaluations, such as pavement design, traffic control, and drainage layout integration.

• Act as the primary point of contact for coordination with internal teams, clients, municipalities, and subconsultants.

• Conduct and lead field inspections, site visits, and design charrettes as needed throughout project life cycles.

• Review and approve work for quality, technical accuracy, and adherence to project requirements.

• Maintain thorough project documentation and ensure deliverables are completed on time and within budget.

• Support business development, proposal writing, and client presentations as a technical expert.

?? What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program

• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois and/or Indiana (required)

• 5–9 years of progressive experience in roadway/highway design

• Proficiency in Micro Station and AutoCAD; experience with Civil 3D a plus

• Deep knowledge of AASHTO, IDOT, and INDOT roadway design standards

• Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills

• Experience leading design teams and mentoring junior staff

• Exceptional organization, time management, and decision-making abilities

• Valid driver’s license and willingness to attend job site visits or client meetings
