Ideal Candidate
  • Direct knowledge of card components, printing, and lamination technologies, with a background in materials.
  • Application/Quality/Process Engineer that has supported Cards and Graphics market, with a major focus on secure card manufacturing for the credit card industry.
Purpose of the job

Proactively build strong technical relationships with customers and value‑chain participants, and collaborate with internal teams such as Operations, Quality, Innovation, and Product Line Management. Serve as a knowledge and expertise source for the applications of our products, particularly in the assigned market segments. Exemplify customer focus by responding with empathy and urgency, and lead projects that solidify kp’s technical leadership in the markets served.

Responsibilities
  • Build strong relationships with customer technical teams and internal stakeholders to support collaborative approaches to challenges, projects, and new product development.
  • Respond to customer technical issues relevant to the application, and support key quality claims when product performance disputes arise.
  • Act as a bridge between commercial and technical needs, demonstrating analytical problem‑solving and adding value for customers.
  • Provide input for specifications that meet or exceed market expectations and competitor performance.
  • Complete detailed technical visit reports and logs within  after customer visits.
  • Create and maintain technical product collateral such as white papers, processing advice, and portfolio overviews.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Innovation teams to support market introduction of new products and business models.
  • Support the innovation process, delivering technical solutions for commercial opportunities.
  • Assist the Sales team with all application‑specific opportunities tracked in Salesforce, ensuring appropriate products are offered early.
  • Provide knowledge of customers’ product environments, equipment, line speeds, and supply chain processes.
  • Conduct information‑gathering meetings with service providers and equipment vendors to drive growth and competitive advantage.
  • Participate in key customer and supplier initiatives, driving joint development activities.
  • Support development of company technology based on market information and strategic customer needs.
  • Utilize kp facilities like the i.center to enhance kp’s value proposition where appropriate.
Education / Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Chemical/Technical engineering preferred, or significant experience (5+ years) in assigned market/industry with focus on application‑specific converting processes and technical demands.
  • 3+ years of experience as an Application Engineer.
  • 3+ years of experience in plastics engineering and/or manufacturing with polymers in the assigned market/industry.
Functional & Technical Skills / Knowledge
  • Experience in plastics technologies.
  • Energetic, forward‑thinking, and creative with high ethical standards and a professional image.
  • Technical focus with cross‑functional collaboration and value‑system awareness.
  • Understanding of market(s), customers, and value system.
  • Solid analytical, critical thinking, organizational and innovative skills.
  • Well‑organized, self‑directed, politically savvy team player.
  • Articulate communicator with excellent oral and written skills.
  • High empathy, open‑mindedness, and effective presentation skills on complex topics.
  • Strategic visionary with sound technical skills, judgment, and customer focus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, and Word.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Effective communication across all levels in a global cross‑functional team.
