Job Description & How to Apply Below

Senior Well Engineer
Subcontractor, remote

Ad Terra is an international geoscience & engineering consulting firm, and renewable energy operator striving to unlock Earth’s boundless energy potential responsibly.

Position Summary

We are looking for a Senior Well Engineer to lead the planning and operational readiness of well delivery scopes. This role plays a critical part in pre-FID engineering studies and the preparation, monitoring, and remote support of field operations across oil & gas and low‑carbon energy projects. This is a remote, project‑based consulting position with the potential for on‑site missions or client interfacing as required.

Responsibilities
  • Lead pre-FID well engineering efforts, including well concept development, risk and cost assessments, and strategic input into field development plans.
  • Develop, review, and own Basis of Design, casing design, well trajectory planning, and drilling/completion programs tailored to project objectives and subsurface conditions.
  • Prepare and validate comprehensive execution documentation: drilling programs, time and cost estimates, bridging documents, and contingency plans.
  • Provide strategic engineering support for rig and services procurement, including scope definition, bid evaluation, and technical clarifications.
  • Interface closely with subsurface teams to ensure well designs are fit‑for‑purpose, operationally feasible, and aligned with reservoir access and field development strategy.
  • Deliver real‑time operational support to execution teams, troubleshoot challenges, and contribute to remote performance monitoring.
  • Facilitate lessons learned reviews, operational debriefs, and design improvement workshops to drive value creation and operational excellence.
  • Mentor junior well engineers when applicable, and support capability building within project teams.
  • Apply conventional well engineering expertise to emerging energy sectors, such as geothermal and CCUS, in line with Ad Terra’s transition strategy.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree (or higher) in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or relevant discipline.
  • 12+ years of well engineering experience in operating environments, with solid exposure to both early-phase planning and field execution.
  • Demonstrated leadership in well delivery planning, operational readiness, and multi‑disciplinary project integration.
  • Deep understanding of drilling engineering software and planning tools (e.g., Well Plan, Landmark EDM, Drillbench).
  • Familiarity with HPHT, geothermal, or unconventional operations is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).

Thank you for considering joining our team.
