Staff Structural Substation Engineer - BESS

Join Black & Veatch as a Staff Structural Substation Engineer focused on Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facilities. You’ll design structures and foundations for BESS equipment, collaborating across disciplines on high‑impact energy infrastructure projects worldwide.

• Execute structural analysis, perform calculations, and prepare sketches and drawings for supporting structures and foundations for BESS equipment and other energy infrastructure.
• Generate project‑specific specifications and assist with procurement for fast‑paced EPC projects.
• Supervise structural engineers and technicians, leading production teams and ensuring project delivery.
• Conduct construction‑phase engineering duties, including site visits, responding to RFIs, and reviewing contractor submittals.
• Perform project administrative tasks: estimate design fees, monitor budget and schedule, manage project changes, and implement quality control requirements.
• Coordinate with other discipline engineers and lead structural efforts on EPC projects up to $50 M.
• Provide guidance on design guides, standards, codes, and B&V policies; support continuous improvement and technical guidance.
• Implement resource management strategy for a small group.

• Active PE License.
• Proficiency with 3D structural analysis and design software (e.g., RISA‑3D, STAADPro).
• Prior structural experience in utility, energy, renewables, or similar fields.
• Strong communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.

Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program and a minimum of 5 years of related work experience.

Professional registration or licensure in the designated home office country or active pursuit of such registration.
