Responsible for mechanical engineering designs using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to plan, organize, execute, and coordinate projects with proficiency and limited supervision. Serve as a technical advisor and mentor to less experienced engineers and represent the firm with external clients and stakeholders. Opportunities for management of projects with ability to grow into management of multi-discipline design teams based on experience.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Perform engineering calculations and assessments to determine best practice mechanical design solutions for specific applications
- Conduct field investigations, HVAC load studies, energy modeling, code reviews
- Produce mechanical design documents (drawings and specifications) for bidding and construction
- Oversee the design and drafting tasks of junior engineering staff, and perform quality control review of design documents
- Coordinate project designs with client specifications and local, city, state code requirements, including interaction with code officials and permitting offices
- Navigate a variety of complex issues in both preparing mechanical designs and assisting the Owner/Architect/Contractor with construction issues in the field
- Serve as project manager on small to medium size projects having a significant mechanical design component
- Proactive problem solving, self initiative/motivating, ownership of responsibility, individual as first line of success/quality
- Perform other related technical and administrative duties as needed, including supporting marketing and recruiting functions (e.g. task proposal development, client interview support, career fair attendance, etc.)
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills are necessary
- Desire to participate and grow in a role that involves both design and project management activities
- Willingness to embrace a broad range of project types and learn new requirements for a variety of mechanical systems
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment across multiple disciplines, with internal team members and external consultants
- Working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, and building load simulation programs
- Understanding and application of building, energy, and mechanical/plumbing codes
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering from an ABET Accredited University program is required
- Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
- 6 Years, or more, of professional experience
- Previous experience designing and specifying HVAC and plumbing systems of various sizes and complexities is necessary; experience with specifying other mechanical systems such as industrial systems and/or fire protection is a plus
- Project management experience for small to medium sized projects a plus, but not required
- Construction administration experience, or working knowledge of installation and/or maintenance of mechanical systems, would be helpful
- Commissioning certification and/or experience is a plus
- PE license required
Work is predominantly performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Hybrid-remote work will be considered.
Field work is required on occasion in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs.) and ability to climb stairs/ladders may be required as needed.
