Remote Design Engineer – gpac

Base Pay Range

$70,000.00 per year – $ per year

Job Summary: The Metal Building Design Engineer is responsible for the structural design, analysis, and optimization of pre‑engineered metal buildings to ensure compliance with industry standards, customer specifications, and internal manufacturing constraints. This role works closely with drafting, project management, manufacturing, and sales teams to deliver cost‑effective, structurally sound building solutions that align with company objectives and customer needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform structural analysis and design of metal building frames, secondary framing, and connections using industry‑standard software (e.g., MBS, AutoCAD, Sky Civ).
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes (IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, AISI, MBMA) and project‑specific requirements.
  • Evaluate and design modifications for existing structures when necessary.
  • Work closely with drafting and detailing teams to ensure accurate representation of engineering intent in shop drawings and erection plans.
  • Provide guidance to project managers, sales, and customer service teams on technical feasibility and design constraints.
  • Support field service teams with structural clarifications and issue resolution during construction.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action processes for engineering‑related errors.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in metal building design, materials, and construction methods.

Work Environment & Expectations
  • Remote, Hybrid, or on‑site position.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities.
  • Occasional travel for site visits, training, or customer meetings as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or ability to obtain one within a reasonable timeframe.
  • 3+ years of experience in structural engineering, preferably in pre‑engineered metal buildings (PEMB).
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software and metal building design tools.
  • Strong understanding of steel design, load paths, and connection detailing.
  • Knowledge of relevant building codes and standards (IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, MBMA, AISI).
