The Position

Shermco Systems Integration is seeking a Controls Engineer, which will be responsible for design, development, and implementation of control systems for various applications, ensuring efficient and safe operation by using automation, programming, critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills.

Responsibilities

Roles and Responsibilities Safety‑Focused

System Design & Development

• Design, develop, and implement control systems for various applications, including Network Architecture, Cause and Effect Diagram, Control Philosophy for the production of a complete automation and process control system.
• Utilize knowledge of control theory, automation, and programming to create efficient and reliable systems.

Programming & Implementation

• Program and configure Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), and other control devices.
• Develop and implement control algorithms and software.
• Utilize graphical programming languages like Ladder Logic and FBD (Function Block Diagram).

Testing & Troubleshooting

• Test and validate control systems to ensure they meet performance requirements.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose control system issues.
• Implement solutions to improve system performance and reliability.

Startup & Commissioning

• Install, configure, and test software systems on‑site, ensuring they function according to specifications and customer needs, often collaborating with other specialists and clients.

Performance Optimization

• Evaluate system performance and identifies areas for improvement.
• Implement solutions to increase production efficiency and reduce downtime.

Collaboration & Communication

• Collaborate with other engineers, technicians, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.
• Communicate technical information clearly and concisely.

Safety

• Ensure that control systems are designed and implemented in a safe manner.
• May be responsible for implementing safety protocols and procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience preferred.
• Minimum of 4 years' experience in control systems and startup/commissioning.
• Must have a strong understanding of control theory, automation, and programming, with the ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex technical problems while paying close attention to detail, ensuring accuracy.
• Must have experience with low voltage controls.
• Must be able to clearly and effectively communicate in English via verbal and written methods and be comfortable and effective doing so directly to customers and co‑workers.
