Job Description & How to Apply Below

We are seeking an Entry-level Energy Engineer (Energy Efficiency Program Evaluation) to join our rapidly growing team in New Jersey. The successful candidate will be located in New Jersey, or willing to relocate there within six months.

Eco Metric is a global consultancy specializing in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and distributed generation consulting services and products. Our clients include investor-owned, and publicly owned electric and natural gas utilities, state agencies, non-profit organizations, and large multinational corporations. Eco Metric provides high quality technical and strategic consulting services to influence the end‑use customer’s energy consumption behaviors and choices. We offer a casual, friendly working environment, and we are dedicated to the quality of our work and our client relationships.

We are looking for a technically skilled, self‑motivated individual who shares our passion for energy efficiency and decarbonization. As an Entry‑level Energy Engineer, you will be a key technical and field resource as part of our consulting team, assessing the impact of energy efficiency programs, conducting on‑site visits at commercial and industrial facilities, interviewing customers on their facility operations and projects, installing energy logging equipment to collect electrical and operational data, and utilizing collected data to develop energy savings estimates for energy efficiency projects.

This is a full‑time salaried position. Competitive benefits include health, dental, life insurance, 401K contributions, paid parental leave, and generous paid time off. It is a remote position (work‑from‑home) with travel requirements to customer sites, primarily within the mid‑Atlantic region (NJ, PA, occasionally MD) with up to 50% travel.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform walk‑through (on‑site) and virtual inspections of commercial and industrial facilities – as part of evaluations, surveys, and research studies – for the purposes of:
  • Verifying the installation of energy‑efficient equipment or systems
  • Collecting and documenting information and data
  • Interviewing facility owners and managers about the operation of equipment
  • Deploy temporary data logging and metering equipment
  • Perform energy and peak demand savings calculations for various energy efficiency measures, using standard and custom engineering tools, formulas, and methodologies, primarily within Microsoft Excel
  • Maintain and be responsible for complete and reliable records of data, notes, findings, and photos from site inspections and analyses.
  • Coordinate regularly with internal engineering staff, field work coordinators, internal project managers, and other external parties
  • Review and understand technical documentation associated with energy efficiency projects – application forms, invoices, specification sheets, spreadsheet calculations, engineering inputs and algorithms, etc.
  • Follow project‑specific measurement and verification (M&E) plans, detailing on‑site objectives, data collection requirements, facility contact interview questions, and photos to be collected.
  • Analyze utility data and collected on‑site data utilizing Excel or other software to identify trends, summarize data, and inform engineering inputs and algorithms to calculate energy savings.
  • Calculate energy savings with technical reference manual (TRM) algorithms, temperature bin analysis, lighting calculators, eQUEST modeling and other tools.
  • Work independently or with supervision to participate in research efforts, ensuring consistency and quality of research methods.
  • Conduct secondary research using published studies, program tracking data, evaluation reports, and Technical Reference Manuals (TRMs).
  • Formulate findings and recommendations based on research efforts.
  • Document findings visually and/or verbally for memos and reports to clients and/or internal project teams.
  • Support senior staff with development of presentations, papers and proposals.
  • Must be able to handle a wide work variety and work in a fast‑paced environment
