Lead Substation Project Engineer
Burnsville, MN – WSP’s Power Delivery Substation Team seeks an experienced Engineer to lead substation design projects, manage project execution, and mentor junior staff. A hybrid or in‑office setup is preferred; remote work will be considered for qualified candidates with proven experience.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, quality plans, and report to the Area Lead/Department Manager.
- Support client relationships and perform QA/QC for deliverables.
- Contribute to substation equipment specifications and coordinate site visits as required.
- Lead detailed design of medium to extra‑high‑voltage substations, including one‑line, schematic, wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, physical layouts, cable plans, ground grids, and protection systems.
- Perform substation studies and calculations (AC/DC, lightning, voltage drop).
- Provide construction support, inter‑disciplinary coordination, and mentorship to team members.
- Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct, safety policies, and ethical decision‑making requirements.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 7–10 years of post‑education experience designing substations.
- Professional Engineering license (PE).
- Experience 15‑kV to 230‑kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and perform technical computations.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with design software (Inventor, AutoCAD Electrical, etc.) and technical writing.
- Commitment to safety and compliance with WSP policies.
- Availability for occasional travel and extended work schedules as required.
- Master’s Degree in Engineering.
- 10+ years of substation design experience, including 230‑kV to 765‑kV projects.
- Experience managing a multidisciplinary project team.
- Proficiency with Micro Station, AutoCAD, or Inventor.

CompensationExpected Salary: $125,000 – $154,000 (based on education, experience, location).
