Mid-Level Structural Engineer – Ports and Maritime
Join Jacobs as a structural engineer in our Northwest based Ports and Maritime Group. You’ll work on waterfront and transportation projects worldwide, leading and mentoring staff engineers, and delivering design, analysis, and delivery of projects ranging from local marinas to large scale international port developments.
Base Pay Range$79,900.00/yr – $/yr
Your ImpactPerform coordination and design of rehabilitation and retrofit projects, as well as new marine structures and facilities. Lead tasks across the project life cycle, from concept to PS&E set, and apply expertise in ASCE, AASHTO, ACI, AISC, IBC, NDS, and PIANC standards using finite element analysis programs.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design and analysis of marine structures, such as piers, wharves, docks, and seawalls.
- Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
- Develop innovative solutions for complex engineering challenges.
- Prepare comprehensive PS&E packages for public and private clients.
- Conduct site inspections and assessments of existing marine structures.
- Prepare project proposals, material take-offs, and engineer’s cost estimates.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in structural engineering.
- Professional Engineer License (or ability to obtain within one year) in AK, WA, OR, HI.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or related field.
- In-depth knowledge of structural analysis and design principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and PDF software.
- Strong knowledge of relevant codes (AASHTO, ASCE, AISC, ACI, NDS, PIANC).
- Experience with FEA software (SAP
2000, RISA3D, STAAD, LPile). - Seismic design knowledge and familiarity with SDC’s and second order analysis.
- Experience preparing project specifications and drafting details in AutoCAD.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Team‑oriented and willing to travel to project sites.
- Master’s degree.
- Knowledge of port marine and landside infrastructure operations.
- Field work and construction experience.
- Experience designing, estimating, rehabilitating, or supervising construction of marine structures.
- Experience working with port authorities and transport agencies.
Hybrid home/office work schedule. Locations may be in Washington, Oregon, Hawaii, or Alaska.
