Job Description
This role is responsible for developing and maintaining asset plans and standards for rail signalling and control systems, ensuring alignment with overall strategies and architecture. The position involves creating maintenance strategies, renewal programs, and life-extension plans, as well as analysing asset performance in terms of cost, reliability, safety, and risk. The role drives continuous improvement initiatives, provides assurance and governance, and assesses risks such as obsolescence and cyber threats.
Additionally, it specifies technical requirements, offers expert engineering support, and ensures compliance with safety standards to enable effective implementation of signalling and control strategies.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain asset plans and standards for all rail signalling and control systems, ensuring alignment with overall strategies and architecture.
- Create maintenance strategies, renewal programs, and life-extension plans in line with the engineering asset management framework.
- Analyse asset performance (cost, reliability, safety, risk) in collaboration with asset management, maintenance, projects, and supply chain teams.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance performance, safety compliance, and stakeholder value across all signalling and control assets.
- Provide assurance and governance, ensuring standards and plans are applied consistently and reviewing deviations where necessary.
- Assess and mitigate risks such as obsolescence, cyber threats, and operational failures, working closely with operations teams.
- Specify technical requirements and provide expert engineering support, ensuring compliance with safety standards and enabling effective implementation of strategies.
Qualifications
- Incorporated Engineer in relevant discipline, or expected to achieve Incorporated status within 12 months of appointment
- 5 years of experience working with Rail signalling and control assets, from within a technical support or asset management environment
- Ability to manage complex scenarios and identify areas for improvement. Strong analytical skills with proven ability to use data and judgement effectively to drive continuous improvement and develop robust solutions to business problems.
- Level 6 qualification in a relevant discipline or demonstrable equivalent experience and expertise
Desirable
- Institute of Railway Signalling Engineers (IRSE) Member
- IRSE Module A and B Exams
- Experience of developing Business Cases

Working Location
Our Hybrid working approach offers the opportunity for colleagues in some roles to work from home for an average of two days a week, providing the flexibility to work in an agile way whilst ensuring we deliver for the operational needs of Heathrow. Working arrangements vary from team to team and will be confirmed during the recruitment process. You'll need to be based in the UK and within a commutable distance to Heathrow.
