Lightergy is focused on advancing next-generation battery energy storage system technologies. We're building a fast-paced, collaborative, and technically rigorous environment where hands‑on innovation drives impact. As we expand our R&D lab, we're looking for an engineer with battery cell experience that is capable of modeling battery cells (COMSOL, Ansys, CATIA) to join our team.
We are seeking a battery cell engineer with hands‑on experience working with battery cells. The ideal candidate would have experience assembling battery cells and using multiphysics-based electrochemical modeling tools such as COMSOL, Ansys, and CATIA to develop and validate models in a lab setting. This role will contribute to process improvement initiatives, identifying bottlenecks and optimization opportunities to enhance the prototype designs and industrial‑scale manufacturing workflows.
This role is ideal for someone with 2+ years of experience working with lithium‑ion (or similar) cells, who thrives in an R&D lab setting and is excited to support robust battery design through theoretical calculations, analysis and lab testing.
- Develop electrochemical, mechanical and thermal models for batteries and battery cells, and perform on‑site lab testing and validation of those models.
- Develop and validate systems models for applications using battery cells and packs.
- Simulate key battery metrics such as battery performance, aging, thermal behavior, mechanical and materials behavior (including safety considerations such as thermal runaway) using advanced modeling.
- Contribute to the design of battery cell experiments and lab testing protocols that validate model predictions including the application of data analytics and machine learning models.
- Develop technical analysis, written reports and presentations that communicate model results and implementations.
- Assist with completion of Technology Readiness Level (TRL) evaluations on time including analysis of results for cells and packs on different performance metrics related to the safety, mechanical and thermal requirements.
- Participate in patent filings and support intellectual property development.
- PhD (or near‑completion PhD candidates) in Electrochemistry, Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
- 1+ years of direct lab experience with battery cells, ideally with experience in battery cell assembly.
- 1+ years of direct experience in developing models for lithium‑ion or other relevant batteries.
- Extensive experience with electrochemical modeling and simulation tools (COMSOL, Ansys, CATIA, MATLAB, Python).
- Proven skill in applying data analytics and machine learning in model development related to battery and/or recharging data.
- Comfortable working independently and effectively managing multiple and shifting priorities through strong organizational skills.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across internal teams, vendors, and key stakeholders.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States (e.g., U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or hold a valid work visa).
- Candidates must be able to relocate and work on‑site. This is not a hybrid position or remote position.
- Entry level
- Full‑time
- Engineering and Information Technology
