Job Overview
FAST Labs, a research and development group within BAE Systems, seeks a Chief Scientist to steer technical direction for the Electro‑Optics Sensing Solutions technology area. The role requires domain expertise in infrared countermeasures, passive detection and tracking, LIDAR and related remote sensing technologies.
Responsibilities- Lead research and development projects from concept through full system demonstration.
- Coordinate with other scientific leaders, business partners and external stakeholders to identify, capture and execute research opportunities.
- Serve as Principal Investigator for contracted research and development programs, defining research objectives and delivering advanced scientific solutions.
- Engage with the technical research community outside BAE Systems to maintain world‑class expertise.
- Initiate and grow customer relationships to create new business opportunities.
- Drive creation and promotion of CRAD research and development for current and future BAE Systems products.
- Guide transition of disruptive technologies into BAE Systems Business Area products and services.
- Provide technical review and strategic guidance to programs and program portfolios.
- Mentor junior scientists and engineers.
- Doctorate with 8+ years or Master’s Degree with
10+ years of multidisciplinary professional research experience. - Expertise in physics‑based modeling, algorithm development, EO/IR sensor and system architectures, digital signal processing, AI/ML, and modeling and simulation.
- Experience as Principal Investigator on multi‑disciplinary research and development programs.
- Leadership in capturing new business for research and development.
- Strong written and verbal presentation skills.
- Active Secret clearance with TS clearance, SCI and SAP accesses.
- Master’s Degree or Doctorate with 8–10+ years of professional research experience.
- Active TS clearance with SCI and SAP accesses.
The role is hybrid, splitting time between onsite and remote work.
CompensationFull‑time salary range: $169,782 – $297,118.
