Application Engineer – Semiconductor Process and Equipment
Located in the Portland, Oregon area, the Application Engineer will provide customer support and process solutions for the optimization and utilization of Canon products at the customer’s location. This is an exciting opportunity for candidates with lithography, metrology, software, and/or modeling capabilities who enjoy a technical challenge working with equipment, processes, and customers. The role includes travel and on‑site support at various customer sites to support the integration and continuous operation of our semiconductor equipment.
YourImpact
- Optimize and track semiconductor lithography process and equipment in the field.
- Respond to field issues regarding equipment or customer processes and communicate with domestic and international design teams for successful resolution.
- Analyze data, identify causes and provide solutions with other application engineers as well as the field service team.
- Discuss and negotiate with customers about semiconductor product specifications, testing implementation, and methods.
- Work with customers to improve product performance using analytical and problem‑solving skills.
The Skills & Expertise You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline required plus 3‑5 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree in the field.
- Bilingual communication skills (Japanese/English) are a plus.
- Experience with semiconductor processes, especially lithography systems.
- Experience with related semiconductor equipment such as SEMs or metrology systems.
- Solid understanding of data structures and data analysis.
- Strong problem‑solving experience and skills.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
- Overnight travel required; may involve domestic and/or international travel.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record; driving may be necessary for company business.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Persistent attention to detail.
- Knowledge of semiconductor automation systems (SEMI SECS/GEM) a plus.
- Experience with Linux/UNIX and scripting languages such as SQL a plus.
- Japanese speaking/reading a plus.
- Strong Microsoft Applications knowledge; database skills a plus.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds individually; assistance may be available for lifting over 50 pounds.
- Physical requirements:
standing, walking, typing, and other tasks typical of lab or field work; may include driving, kneeling, crouching, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and climbing stairs. - Requirement for close visual acuity for extensive reading and inspection.
- Safety: wearing gloves, safety glasses may be required; exposure to chemicals, lasers, moving mechanical parts, and electrical current possible.
Salary Range: $76,150 – $114,040.
