Energy Engineer – Energy Efficiency Programs
Location:
Remote, California (Candidates must be located in California to be considered)
ICF is expanding its energy program implementation team to support new and existing contracts across the region. Our clients include energy utilities, Fortune 500 corporations, and federal, state, and local governmental agencies. We are looking for an Energy Engineer to manage energy efficiency and electrification projects in California and the Southwest United States.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with customers, vendors, account representatives, and cooperatives to develop energy efficiency and/or electrification projects in utility-sponsored programs across agriculture, multifamily, commercial, and industrial sectors.
- Conduct field audits to document current operations, identify opportunities for improvement, and understand customer motivations.
- Scope potential opportunities in partnership with stakeholders.
- Perform technical calculations to quantify baselines, measure case conditions, and estimate potential savings and costs.
- Prepare detailed reports capturing existing conditions, proposed measures, as-built operating conditions, project savings, and cost‑effectiveness parameters.
- Verify installation and operation of energy efficient equipment on site inspections.
- Use the CEDARS cost‑effectiveness tool and other relevant software to conduct cost‑effectiveness analyses of energy efficiency measures.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Energy Resources, Physical Sciences, or related discipline.
- At least one year of experience performing engineering calculations and field work related to HVAC, lighting, pumping, water heating, cooking, process, or other energy efficiency measures.
- Familiarity with California‑specific deemed and custom project requirements.
- Experience in technical consulting.
- Field experience across multifamily, commercial, agricultural, industrial, or related equipment sectors.
- Knowledge of California energy regulatory policy, CPUC funded efficiency programs, and Building Energy Codes Title 20 and Title 24.
- Experience with electric and natural gas end‑use equipment in multifamily/commercial/agricultural/industrial settings.
- Proficiency with whole‑building modeling tools such as Energy Plus, eQuest, Energy Pro, or similar.
- Experience using the eTRM or TRM system(s) for measure package development.
- Relevant credentials such as Home Energy Score Assessor, ECC Rater, BPI, or Healthy Home Evaluator.
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making capabilities.
- Sound business ethics and confidentiality.
- Ability to work with internal staff, clients, and vendors.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Project, Access, Outlook, Excel).
- Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
