Director of Automation, Systems and Controls Engineering – Schreiber Foods

We’re looking for an experienced leader to spearhead our US Automation, Systems, and Controls Engineering strategy, focusing on maintaining and enhancing manufacturing automation and system development across US operations, with occasional global support.

Job Overview

This role is 100% on-site in Green Bay, Wisconsin. You’ll lead a high‑performing engineering team, drive automation strategies, develop KPI dashboards, and collaborate closely with cross‑functional units such as Operations, Quality, Finance, and Supply Chain.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build, coach, and develop a high performing automation, systems, and controls engineering team, reinforcing data‑driven decision making and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Support and maintain effective automation systems to improve operational efficiency, effectiveness, and capability.
  • Develop and share strategy, standards, and best practices across product categories, the manufacturing fleet, assets and infrastructure.
  • Optimize automation strategies and recommend cost‑effective solutions that enhance productivity and profitability.
  • Identify opportunities and deliver measurable improvements to Schreiber’s profitability as a center of excellence.
  • Establish measurement criteria and provide feedback on KPI performance to leaders.
  • Capture, visualize, and review category‑wide operational KPIs, leveraging data analytics to maximize asset utilization.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and quality standards, model food safety culture, and report issues to leadership.
  • Perform other job‑related tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Master’s/MBA is preferred.
  • 12+ years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 4+ years leading engineering teams.
  • Strong experience in strategic planning, controls, automation, and systems design.
  • Expertise with industrial controls, functional design docs, database skills (SQL, reporting), and a strong understanding of automation/robotics, SCADA, HMI, MES, Historian, dashboards, and programming.
  • Experience with Ignition SCADA Platform and Perspective UI preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, resolve conflict, and influence cross‑functional stakeholders.
  • Project management experience meeting timelines, scope, and budget.
  • Financial acumen: manage resources, evaluate ROI, contribute to forecasting.
  • Technology evaluation skills: research trends, recommend solutions aligned with organizational goals.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Willingness to travel 20‑40% within the U.S.

Location:
