WSP is seeking an enthusiastic and talented Associate to join the Roads team based in Wales, in either our Cardiff or Wrexham offices. You will provide leadership to a host of talented people ranging from early‑career professionals to established engineers and project managers across our Roads business, using your expertise to help us continue delivering exemplary services to clients across a diverse range of sectors and projects through all stages of the project life cycle.

You could find yourself leading a variety of projects including strategic network improvements, major and minor highway maintenance and asset renewals, active travel and public transport infrastructure, road safety interventions, and public‑realm initiatives. Our clients include Welsh Government, Transport for Wales, North & Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent, South Wales Trunk Road Agent, and Welsh local authorities.

You will:

• Be responsible for delivering engineering solutions for projects, or work packages of varying scale, complexity, value and project stages, potentially working across several projects simultaneously.
• Act as a Project and/or Technical Delivery Lead in the planning, programming, pricing and delivery of single complex projects, or across a portfolio of small to medium‑sized projects.
• Be responsible for project budget, programme, financial performance, technical standards and legal requirements.
• Work directly with clients, developing strong trusted relationships, proactively managing expectations and comprehensively advising them.
• Collaborate within the UK Roads discipline and with colleagues in the wider Transport and Infrastructure business to achieve our aims and objectives.
• Use your leadership skills to support others in maximizing their personal contribution to project/team goals.
• Lead and manage other staff members in all areas of project delivery; for the right candidate, line‑manage responsibilities may be added.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation and in‑house quality assurance standards/processes.
• Participate in team resource coordination, supporting the setup of local and national teams and allocating the right people to the right roles.
• Support the Wales & Southwest Regional Director and leadership team with the implementation of business strategies and initiatives.

• A passion for design and developing innovative solutions, demonstrating initiative and ingenuity to solve engineering problems and a proven track record of achieving excellence.
• CEng or IEng with post‑professional qualification experience.
• Wide‑ranging knowledge of highway infrastructure engineering and design at various stages of the project life cycle.
• Broad knowledge of relevant design standards and codes of best practice.
• Ability to improve, motivate and inspire others to achieve excellence.
• Commercial acumen, risk management and resolution skills.
• Experience checking and approving reports and designs for transport studies or construction projects.
• Ability to win new work.
• Expert client/stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
• Leadership in health, safety and welfare.
