Associate (Roads) – Road Design Associate Role at WSP, UK & Ireland
We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented Associate to join the Roads team based in the London & South East region (London, Basingstoke, Guildford, Southampton).
Role OverviewAs an Associate, you will provide technical leadership to design teams, deliver high-quality design within time and budget, mentor junior staff, and support business development. Deliverables include design drawings, specifications, and tender packages.
Responsibilities- Oversee multi-disciplinary projects of varying scale, manage budgets and financial performance.
- Develop strong client relationships and manage expectations.
- Perform technical preparation, review and checking of deliverables.
- Collaborate with the Roads team and wider Transport & Infrastructure business.
- Leverage technical ability to support team members' performance.
- Lead and manage staff in production of design drawings, construction details, specs, BOQ, tender prep.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental legislation, internal QA processes.
- Coordinate team resources, support setup of teams.
- Support the London & South East Regional Director with leadership and business development.
- Broad project experience within civil engineering, focusing on highways and multi-disciplinary projects.
- Experience using Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley Open Roads Designer, Info Drainage, PDS.
- Capability to lead and inspire change, drive innovation.
- Commercial and strategic, track record in identifying and pursuing new business opportunities.
- Strong change management and communication skills.
- Influential client/stakeholder management.
- UK Security Check (SC) clearance.
- Lead design disciplines on road, transport, active travel, or developments.
- Contract administration experience with Public Works Contracts.
- Expert client/stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
- Chartered Civil Engineer or ICES with post‑professional qualification.
- Deep knowledge of DMRB, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, local authority guidance, etc.
- Compliance with Designers Duties under CDM regulations.
